07.06.2010 | Call for bookseller nominations for the ABC Board Elections
A Note from Nominating Chair Leslie Reiner:

Dear ABC Bookstore Members,

This has been an interesting and important time for the ABC and children's bookselling. Now, more than ever before, we need your voices and ideas. We are pleased to invite nominations for 2 seats on our board, an Open Bookseller seat, and that of Treasurer.

If anyone is interested in nominating a bookseller, please send names and contact information to me, Leslie Reiner (Inkwood Books). If you have any questions regarding responsibilities involved in the board position, please feel free to contact me via email or phone (813 253 2638), or ABC Board President, Elizabeth Blumle.

We will be taking nominations until August 1st, and will hold an election in August in advance of the presentation and public comment on a formal plan for merger.

This is a great time to get involved in the ABC as discussions and decisions of the future of the Association are underway.

In addition, as the merger decision with the ABA will be put to a vote by our membership in September, all stores must be in good standing to vote on this issue. Please make sure your dues are paid by the time the ballots are sent.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Leslie Reiner

03.27.2009 | A note from ABC President Becky Anderson

Hello ABC Members,

I hope this note finds you well and enjoying winter's departure.

Last week ABC booksellers--as the voting membership of ABC--received the letter in the link below at their stores. It describes a recent decision by the ABC Board to initiate a discussion with the ABA Board about the possibility of a future merger of the two organizations.

Although it is long, I encourage you to click through and read it to get a complete understanding of what we're talking about.

I want to emphasize that this is only a preliminary discussion, and it is one of many explorations we are having regarding ABC's long-term future. As you will read below, we are not initiating this because of any problems at ABC right now. It's business as usual, and we are very happy with the work our current Executive Director is doing for us.

Rather we are undertaking it as ABC's stewards with an eye to the future.

In the interests of keeping the entire membership in the loop, we wanted you to know about it. No action is required on your part, although if you have questions or feedback, we encourage you to speak to any of the ABC Board members.

If you follow the link, you will also find some FAQ's at the very bottom that may answer some of your questions as well.

Many thanks, and best wishes for a great Spring!

Becky Anderson - President
The Association of Booksellers for Children (ABC)
